July 6th 2011 Mark Zuckerberg made a new product announcement for facebook, introducing three new features:
Group Chat, New Chat Design, and Video Calling
“We’ve also added a bunch of new features to Groups to make sharing and communication with small groups of people easier. One of them is group chat, one of our most frequently requested features. Until now, you’ve only been able to chat with one person at a time on Facebook. Now you can chat with everyone in your group at once.” (quoted from the facebook blog)
You can even chat with people you are not friends with as long as they are in a group with you.
New Chat Design
For the people who have a larger screen you be seeing a new chat design coming to your profile. A side bar will be on the right with all of your online and offline friends called a “Buddy List” making it easier for you to find online friends and start a convention.
“Bring Your Conversations to Life
Video chat has been around for years now, but it’s still not an everyday activity for most people. Sometimes it’s too difficult to set up, or the friends you want to talk to are on different services.
So a few months ago, we started working with Skype to bring video calling to Facebook. We built it right into chat, so all your conversations start from the same place. To call your friend, just click the video call button at the top of your chat window.
Well facebook users what do you think about all these new updates?
For one thing, I think the video and group chat is pretty cool.
